Innovation for Tomorrow
At Wijnkasteel Vandeurzen, innovation and technology are central to our philosophy. This is reflected both in our production methods and in our choice of grape varieties. The estate experiments with different vinification techniques and boldly plants southern grape varieties such as Tempranillo and Albariño from Spain, as well as Italy’s Barbera. At the same time, we cultivate varieties from cooler regions around Austria, including Grüner Veltliner and Roter Veltliner.
We consciously anticipate climate change, which increasingly allows more southern grape varieties to thrive on our slopes.
Vinification and ageing take place using four different methods: pure fruit expression, ageing in new French or American oak barrels. Since 2022, we have also invested in amphorae, a traditional ageing method used by the ancient Greeks and Romans. This centuries-old technique gives the wines a pronounced character, marked minerality, and elegant floral notes.
The result is a fresh and innovative vision of terroir, tradition, and technology, driven by a constant pursuit of innovation.
