The Vineyard

Mérula Wines is a Belgian winery located in Oostkamp, near Bruges. Founded in 2010 by Marino Moenaert, it began with the planting of vines next to his home. Today, the estate comprises around 45,000 vines spread across several locations, including De Blauwe Zaal in Sint-Kruis.

With a strong focus on sustainability and respect for nature, Mérula produces high-quality local wines that have earned recognition both nationally and internationally.

The Founders

Founder Marino Moenaert inherited his passion for wine from his grandfather. With a background in horticulture and experience as a teacher, he decided to fully dedicate himself to viticulture.

Together with entrepreneur Luc Beke, who supports the project, Marino has expanded and professionalized the estate. Their joint dedication has resulted in a winery known for its quality and innovation.

Sustainability

Mérula Wines combines traditional winemaking techniques with modern innovations. Grapes are carefully selected and vinified in stainless steel tanks with cooling jackets to ensure optimal fermentation. For sparkling wines, the traditional method is used, including a second fermentation in the bottle and 24 months of aging “sur lie.”

Sustainability is central to their approach, with natural weed control and the use of fungus-resistant grape varieties to minimize the need for chemicals.

About the Wine

The sparkling wines—such as Mérula Brut and Mérula Rosé Brut—are crafted using the traditional method. These wines are characterized by fine, persistent bubbles, fresh aromas, and a delicate taste.

Brut de Bruges Prestige, one of their flagship cuvées, has been recognized in the Gault & Millau wine guide.
With an annual production of around 30,000 bottles, Mérula continues to strive for excellence in every bottle.
