Best Belgian Wine Competition 2025

Initially, 231 wines were entered, but due to shipping problems, 226 wines from 65 estates were ultimately tasted and 68 medals were awarded: 23 gold, 23 silver and 22 bronze.
The competition was held by the Flemish Sommeliers Association (VVS) on Wednesday 17 September 2025 at the Ter Groene Poorte Hotel School in Bruges.
The results of the 21st edition can be found below.

As stipulated in the regulations, only 30% of the wines entered can be awarded a medal.

We are noticing growing interest from Wallonia, which mainly offers sparkling wines for tasting.
In Flanders, we are seeing a slight increase in sparkling wines with appellation. The BelBul quality brand will no doubt have something to do with this. In addition, Flanders continues to be strongly represented with still white wine. We look forward to the 22nd edition in 2026 after an exceptional 2025.

The Flemish Sommeliers Association has been organising this competition since 2005, in which sommeliers search for the best Belgian wines. This objective and professional competition enjoys the trust of the wine-growing community. In addition, it is a recognisable quality label for Belgian and foreign consumers.

Although Belgian wines are still relatively unknown internationally, their style and quality are such that they can compete with renowned wine regions.

Our Belgian sparkling wines (BelBul – winner of 20 medals) and our white wines in particular are premium products.

Since 2011, the competition has been held at the Ter Groene Poorte Hotel School in Bruges. This renowned hotel school will once again host the event this year.
Eight juries, composed of nearly 70 sommeliers and wine experts from Flanders and Wallonia, blind taste all the wines and judge them objectively according to strict criteria. The FPS Economy supervises the organisation.

The aim of the competition is to support Belgian viticulture and promote the quality of Belgian wines.
