The Vineyard

Wijnkasteel Genoels-Elderen is the oldest and largest wine estate in Belgium, located in the heart of Dry Haspengouw. Since 1991, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines have been cultivated here on the sun-drenched southern slopes of the Limburg hills. The grapes root deeply in the loam and marl soils, which are ideal for producing elegant and refined wines.

In the cellars of the castle, the wines mature in peace, surrounded by centuries-old tradition and modern craftsmanship. The result is a unique combination of terroir, quality, and timeless class.

The Founders

The family estate is passionately run by Joyce and Stefan Kekko-van Rennes. Since its founding in 1991, they have been committed daily to preserving tradition, biodiversity, and top quality.

With a dedicated team, they carry out nearly every step – from pruning to bottling – by hand. Their approach is rooted in precision, respect for nature, and a strong belief in the potential of Belgian wine. The family’s personal involvement is reflected in every bottle.

Tradition and Terroir

At Wijnkasteel Genoels-Elderen, craftsmanship takes center stage. Grapes are harvested after a strict selection and green harvest, resulting in low yields and high concentration. In the cellars, the wines undergo long aging in barrels and bottles on their lees, which imparts depth and complexity. The unique combination of tradition and terroir give their wines their own distinctive character.

No herbicides, insecticides or fertilisers are used; biodiversity and soil health are prioritized. This meticulous method produces pure, refined wines with authentic aromas.

About the Wine

The sparkling wines – known as “Pearls” – are crafted using the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle and several years of aging in the castle cellars. The grapes – Chardonnay and Pinot Noir – come from the estate’s best south-facing slopes.
The result is elegant sparkling wines with fine bubbles, fresh acidity, a creamy texture, and subtle brioche notes.

These BelBul wines are rightly compared to renowned top wines and serve as the castle’s festive signature.
