In Zwijnaarde, near Ghent, Domaine Waes produces distinctive Flemish Country Wines on 4 hectares of ecologically managed sandy-loam soil. With carefully selected hybrid grape varieties, manual harvesting, and minimal intervention, the estate creates 100% Belgian wines, respecting nature and terroir.
As one of the first Belgian wine estates, Domaine Waes proudly carries the "100% Belgian Wine" label – from grape to bottle, locally and sustainably.
Since 2005, Lodewijk Waes has been cultivating their vineyard in Zwijnaarde with passion and a continued focus on quality.
Lodewijk Waes also plays a prominent role within the Belgian wine sector. He is the president of the VZW Belgian Winegrowers, co-founder of Wines of Belgium, and represents Belgium in the European winegrowing organization CEVI. Through these roles, he actively works for the recognition and professionalization of Belgian viticulture, both nationally and internationally.
Tradition, authenticity, and quality are central to Domaine Waes. In the vineyard, everything is done manually according to traditional principles, with low yields and maximum care for the plant and nature.
During vinification, the estate combines traditional techniques with modern equipment to achieve a pure and characterful result. Manual harvesting, gentle pressing, natural clarification, and aging in French oak barrels produce pure, authentic wines.
The Waes Brut, made from 100% Chenin Blanc, is one of a kind in Belgium. A gastronomic, vinous sparkling wine with a white-gold color. Mineral and complex on the nose with delicate fruity, floral, and roasted aromas. Elegant and soft on the palate with beautiful flavor depth, great length, and a long finish. The refined bubbles provide a constant refreshing sensation in the mouth.
To be served as an aperitif, with white meats or fish in sauce, or with lightly sweet desserts such as tarte tatin.
