In the heart of the Westhoek region, Den Nachtegael is transforming a former farmhouse in Zonnebeke into a promising 10-hectare wine estate. Rolling fields, rich soils, and a mild climate create a young yet expressive terroir. With no fewer than 18 grape varieties – including the entire Pinot family, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Merlot – Den Nachtegael crafts elegant, aromatic wines full of character. Both sparkling and still wines are produced using the traditional method.

This modern wine destination is putting Zonnebeke firmly on the wine map of Flanders, offering refined, clear wines that combine finesse with terroir expression.

The Founders

At Den Nachtegael, passion, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to terroir come together. For winemaker Dirk Syx, wine is more than a product – it’s a sensory experience where aroma, color, taste, and setting merge.

After a successful career with Syx Automations, he returned to his agricultural roots in 2019 and founded the first professional wine estate in Zonnebeke. With a dedicated team of professionals, perfectly ripened grapes are grown here and refined wines are created that stand out for their character and finesse. Den Nachtegael is a place where wine is lived – with love for the craft and a tasteful outlook on the future.

Méthode Traditionnelle

Den Nachtegael offers a broad selection of Flemish wines, with no less than 18 varieties including sparkling, white, and red wines, all produced using the traditional method.

Vinification takes place entirely on the estate, with skilled craftsmanship, the use of wooden barrels, and a clear focus on ecological practices. The vineyards are home to the full Pinot family, as well as Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot, and Kerner. The result: authentic wines with character, finesse, and a distinct expression of their terroir.
