The Vineyard

Het Verhaal LZ Vineyard is located on a historic site in Lemberge, East Flanders, where German Zeppelins took off during World War I. In 2015, Wouter Bogaert planted 1,600 vines here, followed by an additional 300 in 2022.

The vineyard, with its sandy loam soil, is managed in an environmentally friendly way without herbicides or pesticides. The wines carry names such as LZ33, LZ35, and LZ37, referring to the Zeppelins once stationed on the site. The estate aims to connect people and nature, offering a unique blend of history and viticulture.

The Founder

Wouter Bogaert, a former food photographer, transformed his career by dedicating himself to winemaking. After an inspiring visit to the Genoels-Elderen Wine Castle and training in Ypres, he founded Het Verhaal Vineyard.

His passion for history and nature is reflected in the vineyard, located on a former German airfield. Wouter combines traditional winemaking techniques with deep respect for the past, resulting in wines with a unique story and character.

Sustainable and Artisanal

Het Verhaal Vineyard applies sustainable and artisanal winemaking practices. The grapes are hand-picked after strict selection. A gentle press using a pneumatic bladder press is followed by static clarification.

Fermentation takes place with selected yeasts, and the wine is aged for nine months on fine lees. No malolactic fermentation is applied to preserve the fruit character. The second fermentation in the bottle, following the traditional method, lasts at least 15 months, with manual riddling and disgorging.

About the Wine

LZ37 is the award-winning sparkling wine from Het Verhaal Vineyard, a blend of Chardonnay, Auxerrois, and Lemberger. This extra brut wine undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle and matures for at least 15 months ‘sur lattes’.
LZ37 stands out for its fine mousse, aromas of citrus and floral notes, and a fresh, dry palate with a long finish.

Ideal as an aperitif or with seafood, this wine combines elegance with a unique historical narrative.
